Beaumont brawl ends in murder

Just after 5 p.m. April 26, Beaumont police responded to the 7700 block of Stonetown Road in reference to a brawl among several subjects, one of whom was shot and killed. 

Officers located the deceased victim when they arrived and were able to detain the suspect who allegedly fired the shot, Zachary Joseph Kapel, 33, of Beaumont. Preliminary investigation revealed there was an on-going disturbance between the suspect and victim, identified as Beaumonter Russell Jones, 41.

During the disturbance, Kapel fired a shot at Jones, striking him in the upper chest. Kapel was interviewed and arrested for murder. He sits in the Jefferson County Correctional Facility on a $1,000,000 bond. The investigation is still on-going as detectives continue to interview other witnesses.
