After hearing three armed men break into his home and hold his family at gunpoint Dec. 27, a 29-year-old Port Arthur man armed himself and shot one of the invaders, according to a news release, causing the other two to flee.

Port Arthur police responded to the home invasion in the 2500 block of 18th Street just after 8:30 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 27. Upon arrival, officers discovered a deceased 28-year-old man from Port Arthur inside the house. Further investigation revealed that this man, along with two other armed accomplices entered the house as a female resident was arriving home. The armed men then held the family, including the woman and young children, inside at gunpoint while demanding property.

The homeowner, a 29-year-old man, was in another room and heard what was happening. According to the news release, the homeowner armed himself with a rifle and fired several shots at the suspect who was later pronounced deceased.

The dead man was identified as Terence Ellies, 27. The other two suspects fled the area before police arrived. The investigation is ongoing.
