    The area’s top high school golfers were honored May 28 at the 14th Annual Babe Zaharias High School Junior Golf Awards at 5 Under Golf Center. A time-honored tradition of the Babe Zaharias Foundation, the banquet recognizes golfers, coaches, and the local golf community’s history and future.

    David Wallace of PN-G won Boys Coach of the Year while Ashlee Broussard of Orangefield and Darrell Westfall of Hardin-Jefferson were Co-Girls Coaches of the Year.”

    “This is undoubtedly one of the most impressive, most talented classes of golfers we’ve seen come through and it’s wonderful to have them recognized,” said Babe Zaharias Foundation Board Member Austin Williams. “We’re proud and we cannot wait to see what’s ahead for them… and we’re thankful for the coaches and families who continue to impact golf in Southeast Texas.”

    Sponsored by The Astros Golf Foundation, Trecora, and Wells Fargo Advisors, the banquet at 5 Under Golf Center was hosted by Babe Zaharias Foundation board members Jerry Honza, former PN-G golf coach, and Austin Williams. The evening included a presentation of the honorees, insightful stories from special guests, and inspiring speeches from a panel of collegiate golf coaches including Theo Sliman (men’s golf coach, University of Louisiana), and both men’s and women’s golf coaches from Lamar University – Jessie Mudd and Janelle Howland O’Connor, respectively.
