Despite facing relentless 30-40 mph winds and a biting windchill of 39 degrees, the Monsignor Kelly Catholic Boys Golf Team showcased unwavering determination and skill to secure a commendable 2nd place finish at the recent competition hosted by Bay Area Christian Academy at Magnolia Creek Golf Club in League City, Texas, in early February. The Bulldogs, tested by both the weather and the demanding golf course, exhibited resilience and prowess throughout the grueling event.

This competition, serving as a regional preview, provided a glimpse into the fierce competition that awaits at the upcoming TAPPS Regionals scheduled for May. Despite the formidable challenges, the Bulldogs displayed exceptional performance, finishing 2nd only to The Woodlands Christian Academy.

Leading the charge for the Bulldogs was Team Captain Julian Mathews, whose impressive score of 79 earned him a well-deserved 3rd place finish. Following closely behind was freshman standout Reece Williams, whose score of 80 secured a commendable fifth-place tie. Senior Captain Drew Turley contributed significantly with a score of 81, finishing tied for 8th. Rounding out the top five were Ricardo Cardenas with a score of 91 and Senior Jackson Young with 94.

After a well-deserved week off, the Bulldogs will regroup before heading to the Kingwood High School Invitational, a two-day event at Kingwood Country Club, on Feb. 16-17.
