BPD investigates midday murder

Just before 3:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 15, 2020, Beaumont police responded to an unconscious male lying in a field in the 1600 block of Leight Street, according to a news release.

The responding officers summoned Beaumont EMS and Judge Collins, who pronounced the victim deceased at the scene. Detectives are in the early stages of this investigation and are currently interviewing witnesses to determine what occurred, the release reads.

The victim was identified as Melvin Savoy, 56, of Beaumont. The investigation is on-going.
