Beaumont's Oktoberfest returns

The City of Beaumont will host their seventh annual family-friendly Oktoberfest on Oct. 7, from 3-7 p.m. at Rogers Park (1455 Dowlen Road). Admission to the event is free and open to the public. Attendees are also encouraged to bring lawn chairs, blankets, wagons and strollers.

Scarecrows date back to the Egyptians who used them to protect their wheat fields located on the Nile River from quail. Their version consisted of wooden frames with nets. The Romans also used a scarecrow to imitate soldiers.
