Mural Fest returns to beautify Beaumont

The Beaumont Mural Festival is back for its fourth annual celebration, set to take place Saturday, March 8, and Sunday, March 9, at the Beaumont Civic Center. This year’s festival promises to be a vibrant and dynamic event, featuring a diverse lineup of both international and local artists, and is free and open to the public. Gates open 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. on March 8, and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on March 9.

The yearly event has become a cornerstone of the community, bringing together artists, residents, and visitors to celebrate the power of public art. This year will showcase a wide array of murals, live painting sessions, and family-friendly activities. Attendees will have the unique opportunity to witness the creation of stunning murals in real-time, transforming the downtown area into an open-air gallery.

“We are thrilled to host the fourth annual Beaumont Mural Festival and to welcome such a talented group of artists,” said Min Dai, festival organizer and owner of Obana Restaurant Group. “This event not only highlights the incredible artistic talent within our community but also fosters a sense of unity and pride among residents and visitors alike. I think hosting the event at the Civic Center officially legitimizes the festival. I think the city realizes the impact the festival is having in affecting the growth of downtown with public art and hopefully it can contribute to the city’s plans for the downtown riverfront developments.”

Also new, the community is invited to be part of the first community mosaic installation by mosaic artist and festival curator, J Muzacz. “There will be food trucks, music, and kids’ activities, as well as interactive artworks such as a new landmark mosaic collaboration happening all weekend,” Muzacz added. “And while artists are painting all week, people are welcome to come visit and meet them while they work, to watch the magic happen as the artworks come alive on the walls.”

Featured artists include renowned muralists from around the world, as well as emerging local talents. The festival aims to provide a platform for artists to share their work, connect with the community, and inspire future generations of creatives.

“Mural Fest is a great event for Beaumont, and it adds so much to the city beyond the festival itself,” John Beaver, director of tourism at the Beaumont Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB). “The murals add to a growing tapestry beautifying our city’s downtown and gives us valuable pieces we can package together in self-guided mural tours, scavenger hunts and more that help us promote Beaumont as an arts and culture destination.”

In addition to the mural installations, the festival will offer a variety of activities for all ages, including live music performances, food trucks and local vendors, local artist booths and cubes, kids area, and more. As the murals remain a permanent fixture in the city, they serve as a constant reminder of the transformative power of art and the beauty of cultural exchange. “Our participation in this festival extends far beyond the event itself; it’s about creating a lasting legacy of murals that will captivate and inspire visitors for years to come,” said Freddie Willard, executive director of the Beaumont CVB.

Ten new artists along with J Muzacz will and transform buildings and structures in and around downtown Beaumont including Samara “Mixed Hues” Barks, who is a freelance illustrator, muralist, 3D artist; Tirso “Bubblegum” Paz (multidisciplinary muralist from Spain); Mez Data, who has reached a masterful level all-spray character, caricature, and portrait painting; Yazmin Obregon Prescott of San Miguel de Allende, Mexico; Keya Tama, a South African artist based in New York; Chelsea Ritter-Soronen (owner and principal artist of Chalk Riot, a mural company specializing in pavement art); and Julio “Chous” Ávalos, who specializes in large-scale illustration expressed through murals

Throughout the weekend, the community will be able to see the progress take place in real-time and will be able to visit with the artists.

Dai is hosting events to coincide with the event beginning with the Artist Meet and Greet at Pour09 Bar and Rooftop (6165 Muela Creek Drive) in Beaumont on Thursday, March 6, from 7-9 p.m.
