Celebrating ‘hope’

Hope Women’s Resource Clinic in Beaumont has been in ministry for 27 years. What began at a local church serving less than 100 women in a year and has grown to serving more than 3,000 clients. It is an outreach of the Christian community to women and their families with unplanned pregnancies expressed through evangelism, counseling, medical assistance and education by the Glory of God.

In fulfillment of their mission, Jeanette Harvey, Executive Director of the Hope Women’s Resource Clinic says the center provides free pregnancy testing and options, education at no cost as well as medical services such as limited ultrasound imaging. The clinic educates clients on abstinence, parenting, and spiritual matters, plus provides a variety of services for men such as STD testing and treatment. Hope Women’s Resource Clinic also works with other partners throughout the community for housing, food, transportation and Medicaid.

With growing need of support and funding, the clinic will host their annual Hope Gala on Tuesday, Nov. 12, at 5:30 p.m. at Doggett Ford Park (5115 Interstate 10) in Beaumont. Individual tickets are $150 and only a few tables remain at $1,200. Those can be purchased online at hopeclinicpartners. com/gala. Business attire is recommended.

“It’s our largest fundraising event of the year,” said Harvey. “It’s usually one-third to half of our yearly budget. It’s a great event for families and great place to connect with people.”

Gala goers can take selfies inside the photo booth and bid on a large variety of items in the silent auction including a smokeless firepit, fishing trip, two-night hotel stay, gift cards from local restaurants, round of golf for four, Kendra Scott jewelry, and incredible wood-crafted charcuterie board and much more.

The program begins at 6:45 p.m. with a New Orleans’ chef inspired meal of lemon artichoke chicken, parmesan green beans, salad and a dessert choice of blueberry ricotta cheesecake or red velvet cake.

Those in attendance will also hear testimonials from former clients, a time of worship and prepare to be “wowed” by guest speaker Seth Dillon, who is the CEO of “The Babylon Bee,” which takes on the tone of a traditional news media publication, then satirizes real-world events and public figures.

Dillon’s experience with censorship and deplatforming has placed him on the front lines of the battle for free speech in the public square. He now speaks on college campuses and at conferences across the country about the effectiveness of humor, the moral imperative of mockery, and the dangers of censorship.

“This is a really big event, and we begin praying literally the day after the previous gala,” explained Harvey. “We’ve had some really good speakers in the past – Dallas Jenkins, Dr. Ben Carson and Dinesh D’Souza – so everyone wanted to know how were we going to top that? I went to a conference with the gentlemen who helps me book speakers. We prayed about it. We thought about Tim Tebow, who is a great person, but I felt it wasn’t the right choice. I literally woke up in the middle of the night with Seth Dillon on my mind and that was the answer. He is a great speaker, very pro-life and you won’t be bored.”

Harvey will also provide a “State of the Union” regarding the Hope Women’s Resource Clinic.

“We are growing,” she said. “We are currently building a new 3,000-square foot parenting center, which we hope should be open soon. It will provide resources until the baby turns 3 years old instead of 1. We also hope to have a nurse practitioner to lease space in the new building. For those who don’t already know, we operate a 38-foot mobile unit that services Silsbee, Orange, Port Arthur and Crystal Beach. We will soon open a second clinic in Port Arthur, so we hope to collect more funds at the gala to help towards the new clinic as well.”
