A Beaumont man is in the Jefferson County Jail charged with attempted kidnapping. Deputy Donta' Miller confirms 40-year-old Shannon Richard attempted to abduct a jogger Sunday afternoon on Brooks Road. Richard pulled up beside the jogger asking her is she needed help. He eventually opened the door and screamed at her to get in the car. She kicked the door closed, jumped a fence, hid in bushes, and called 911. An arriving deputy activated his overhead lights. Richard drove for about a mile before stopping. Once inside the patrol unit Richard was able to undo his seatbelt while handcuffed and move his hands in front of him. He struggled with the deputy while being restrained a second time. Additional charges are pending against Richard.
