One man is incarcerated and a youth is dead after a malicious act of violence, police report.

Three kilos of heroin

A traffic stop by a Jefferson County Sheriff's deputy yielded a significant payload of heroin early Monday, Feb. 13. 

According to a press release from the sheriff's office, a deputy stopped a GMC SUV for an obscured license plate in the eastbound lanes of Interstate 10 near the 843 mile marker. 

But when the officer approached the driver, the press release said he seemed "extremely nervous." 

When officers asked the driver where he was coming from and where he was headed, police say the driver told a tall tale. 


Two Hamshire-Fannett students are in the hospital recovering from serious injuries after being struck by a truck and trailer while their school bus was dropping them off at their residence.

UPDATE: At approximately 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 11, 2014, Crime Stoppers received a tip in reference to the location of wanted fugitive Joshua Cole Williams. Acting on the tip, the Beaumont Police Department and U.S. Marshals Service located the fugitive at a residence on Orange Street in Port Arthur. Williams was incarcerated in the Jefferson County Correctional Facility and held on a bond of $150,000.

A Port Arthur man is dead after the car he was driving went into the canal near the Memorial Boulevard and Highway 73 exit ramp.

Port Arthur police have identified the driver as Mikel Anderson, 26, of Port Arthur.

According to a PAPD press release, around 5:30 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 9, 2014, PAPD officers, the Port Arthur Fire Department and EMS units responded to a 911 call of a car in the water near 4600 Memorial Blvd.
