A Tyler County man was arrested after he assaulted a Silsbee Police Department (SPD) officer on Jan. 24 – thanks to bystanders stepping in.

According to a press release by Police Chief Shawn Blackwell, a SPD officer responded to a disturbance that transpired inside an automobile traveling in the city limits at 11:45 a.m.

The officer contacted one of the individuals involved in the disturbance in the parking lot of Munchies Ole’ Restaurant, 1198 North 5th St.

Blackwell stated that, while the officer was attempting to ascertain what occurred, Cody Lee Bohler, 25, of Spurger, became aggressive and a struggle ensued with the officer. During the struggle, the officer was struck multiple times.

Two bystanders who witnessed the incident aided the officer, who was then able to place Bohler under arrest.

Bohler was transported to SPD and charged with assault on a police officer, a third-degree felony, as well as resisting arrest, a Class A misdemeanor.

Pct. 1 Justice of the Peace Chris Ingram placed Bohler under a $270,000 bond.

The officer was taken to Baptist Hospital in Beaumont for treatment and later released, while Bohler was transported to the Hardin County Jail.
