Silsbee High School’s Cara Heisner, the SHS student representative for Congressman Brian Babin’s Student Congressional Advisory Council, last month spent the day learning about the timber industry in East Texas.

She and other student representatives visited the Big Thicket Visitor’s Center and learned about education and jobs in the forestry industry. They also toured the LP OSB plant in Jasper and Woodville Hardwood where they produce railroad ties and boards for pallets.

“The experience was very insightful and I enjoyed seeing what features our area has to offer,” Heisner said.
