The Sabine Federal Credit Union and the Queenship of Mary #2776 Catholic Daughters of America partnered to collect blankets for Family Services Women & Children’s Shelter, presenting the gifts to shelter advocates Jan. 13. Among the presenters were Sabine Federal Credit Union, Father Kevin Badeaux and Queenship of Mary Regent of Court Deborah Johnson.

According to Johnson, the collective “wanted to do something to help victims of domestic violence and homelessness in honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day.”

Family Services Women & Children’s Shelter’s Bonnie Spotts reminds that, “Domestic violence is the leading cause of homelessness among women.

“Let us be reminded of what MLK, JR. said about violence: ‘In spite of temporary victories, violence never brings permanent peace.’”
