An ongoing endeavor by The Examiner to provide the agenda attachments for each Beaumont Independent School District board of trustees meeting hit a snag this week when the district encountered a computer issue that prevented access to the documents.

The largest marijuana bust in Liberty County history took place Tuesday, Oct. 18, near the intersection of County Roads 2050 and 2058 in the northeast part of the rural county.

According to investigators, more than 300 acres were dedicated to the growth of the plants and they reported it was the largest, most sophisticated marijuana operation they had seen to date. Authorities say they suspect a Mexican drug cartel was behind the operation.

The National Transportation Safety Board released the final report of its investigation into the Jan. 23, 2010, collision of the tanker Eagle Otome and Dixie Vengeance towboat in the Sabine-Neches Canal in Port Arthur, drawing conclusions that brought a sharp rebuke from Duane Bennett, presiding officer of the Sabine Pilots Association.

U.S. District Judge Ron Clark didn’t buy into the claims of racism and bias argued by defense attorney Dick DeGuerin that Calvin Walker of Walker’s Electric couldn’t receive a fair and impartial criminal trial in the Beaumont division of the Eastern District of Texas and ordered the case remain here rather than be transferred to Lufkin or to Houston.
