Fed up with his namesake living in his home, a Beaumont man assaulted his 79-year-old dad to the point of unconsciousness, which would result in his death eight days later.

Beaumont police officers were dispatched Jan. 25 to the home of Heyman Phillip Brandon Jr, 41, on McFaddin Street after the homeowner’s mother called 911 advising her son was assaulting his father. Upon arrival, Brandon Jr. was detained in his front yard. Officers found Brandon Sr. in the residence and appeared to have been severely beaten to the point of unconsciousness, according to an indictment.

The victim’s wife told officers she heard four to five loud noises and entered the living room to inspect. She walked in to find her son punching her husband repeatedly while stating, “I’m tired of you mother (expletive). Y’all gonna get out of my house.”

The senior Brandon was taken to a local hospital, where he was treated for numerous injuries including a brain bleed, skull fracture, upper and lower jaw fracture, broken nose and fracture of the orbital socket. He was admitted into ICU Jan. 25, while his son was processed into the county jail. Feb. 2, an ICU nurse called detectives to advise Brandon Sr. died. Brandon Jr’s charge was upgraded to murder the next day.
