A 34-year-old Silsbee man was jailed on a $170,000 bond after robbing a man at gunpoint in May – almost two months after he was allegedly high on PCP and half naked at the Parkdale Mall in March.

Johnny Ray Jones, 34, faces charges of possession of a controlled substance and aggravated robbery after a grand jury indicted him for the crimes June 8. Two BPD officers responded to Parkdale Mall at about 1:30 p.m. March 18  after witnesses saw Jones standing near a dumpster with his pants around his ankles.

“Jones was incoherent and blankly staring straight ahead,” officers noted. “Jones was not responsive to any commands or movements that we made.”

Jones was in an area with heavy foot traffic and near the main roadway in the mall parking lot, officers reported, adding, “I also believed that Jones could become aggressive due to the suspected PCP and attempt to hurt someone.”

On Jones’ person, officers found two cigarettes dipped in a chemical-smelling substance – a tell-tale sign of PCP.

Not even two full months later, Jones was arrested again. This time, BPD officers arrived at a Family Dollar on Highland Avenue at about 9:30 p.m. May 13 in reference to a shooting. The 54-year-old victim told officers Jones approached him in the parking lot before putting a gun to the man’s stomach and demanding he turn over anything of value.

The victim attempted to disarm Jones, and the weapon discharged during the chaos. After the bullet struck the ground, Jones picked up the victim’s hat and phone before fleeing. Officers found him in a vacant lot less than a block away.

As of press time, Jones was listed on the Jefferson County inmate roster with a $170,000 bond.
