Saturday, April 4, the Vidor Police Department dispatch center received a call of an assault in progress in the 1100 block of N. Archie. The caller advised that she and her husband were having an argument when he produced a handgun and fired it at her. The victim was able to escape the residence to a neighbor's home to contact the police. The victim was not struck by the bullet.

Arriving officers were able to communicate with the husband, identified as 39-year-old Aric Lyne Blanchard, and have him exit the residence without any further violence. The suspect was taken into custody without incident. Blanchard was charged with felony family violence involving a firearm. He was transported to the Orange County Jail. He has since made bail.

Vidor Police Chief Rod Carroll noted, "The Vidor Police Department wants everyone to understand that tensions are high with the current status of COVID 19. We need to distance ourselves from others to allow emotions to decrease and for everyone to be safe."
