A nearly-five-hour-long hostage situation ended without any reported injuries after Beaumont Police Department (BPD) officers and SWAT personnel were called into action Friday, Jan. 7 at Breakwater Bay Apartments on Major Drive in Beaumont.

At about 10:31 a.m., BPD officers responded to the apartment complex in reference to a disturbance, according to a BPD account, where Terrell Zebadiah Thomas, 42, allegedly held two of his family members against their will.

“During the altercation, the suspect barricaded himself and two hostages inside the apartment,” officers reported. “BPD SWAT and negotiators responded to the scene. During the almost 5 hour long situation, officers were able to negotiate the release of the hostages, and the suspect eventually surrendered.”

Thomas was placed under arrest for two counts of aggravated kidnapping-family violence Jan. 7 and booked into the Jefferson County Jail with a $500,000 bond.
