Hardin County Emergency Management Director Aaron Tupper is requesting residents limit outdoor burning at this time, especially during high winds, as fires are getting out of control and spreading quickly.
The request is due to the fact that the area is seeing extremely dry conditions throughout the weekend, that could cause uncontrolled fires to spread rapidly.
County official are asking the public the following in helping to prevent wildfires.
• Don’t toss lit cigarettes on the ground.
• Don’t drag tow chains on the ground.
• Don’t park/drive over tall grass.
• Don’t leave fire’s unattended.
• Don’t burn unnecessarily.
If residents must burn, be aware of the surrounding area and never leave a fire unattended.
“While the moderate drought conditions in Hardin County do not currently meet the criteria to ban all outdoor burning, we are asking that you take necessary precautions, and limit burning if at all possible in order to protect life and property,” posted County Judge Wayne McDaniel on Facebook.
