“Designing Texas Rice for the Future” is the theme of the 74th annual field day on Thursday, July 14, at Texas A&M AgriLife Research and Extension Center at Beaumont, 1509 Aggie Drive.

The event is open to the public and free of charge. The field day will start at 8 a.m. with rice field tours followed by an indoor program at 10:45 a.m. A barbecue lunch and afternoon field tour will round out the program.

Texas Department of Agriculture licensed private, commercial and non-commercial pesticide applicators participating in the field day may obtain continuing education credits for recertification.

The morning field tour will showcase recent developments in inbred and hybrid rice breeding, plant physiology, nutrient, disease and insect management.

The current U.S. Department of Energy bioenergy crop research will be the showcased afternoon tour.
