Once again, the Garth House Designer Purse Bingo was a smashing success as nearly 750 guests vied to win those coveted handbags. Guests at the tables were Maris Mehaffy, Candye Anderson, Judy Honeycutt, Haylee Faggard, Rose Essex, Amanda Beckert, Julie Grammier, Amy Price, Sandy Fertitta, Kary Burnham, Karla Aran, Linda Hall, Lindsey Fowler, Ashlyn McDaniel, Kristi Dodd, Robin Broussard, McKenzie Hidalgo, Pam Broussard, Cindy Mitchell, Karlie Stanley, Kamille McGraff, Linda Adair, Hazel Adair Miranda, Cindi Battaglia, Pam Danna, Kathy Gober, Lindsay Zummo, Beverly Tortorice and Mary Tortorice. New to the party this year, Cathy Zummo won the Louis Vuitton purse raffle, which was the Odeon tote. There was even a group wearing Kentucky Derby fascinators. Mattie Beaver celebrated her bday at the event and won a lovely teal blue Kate Spade clutch. Celebrating with her were Janey and Michael Phelan, John Beaver, Michelle Phelan, Lauren Welch and Dynasy Phelan. Julianna Davila, Emily Wilson, Brittney Ferguson and Emily Fertitta had a fiesta theme table with bottles of bubbly. Even with much excitement in the air, LaShanna Roy stole the entire show with her jubilant personality as she danced to the stage to have her winning bingo card checked. A total of 26 designer bags found a new home, but the biggest winner that night were the children of Southeast Texas who are continually blessed by the generosity of our community and the Garth House, who graciously thanked all their sponsors including Susan Byrom, Jessica Garth Adair and Lee Ann Garth

Partying like the prohibition days… the Oaks Historic District once again hosted their annual Preservation Bash fundraiser and this year’s theme was “Ritz & Ragtime,” which was definitely the “bees knees.” It’s truly a “takes a village” event as many neighbors in the Historic District helped setup, decorate the party, made food and helped transform the home of Christina and Josh Crawford into a Gatsby-esque venue. Party-goers that enjoyed a wine pull, silent auction, Charleston dance lessons from Rebecca Woodland, photos near a vintage car were Celia Crittenden, Allison and Scott Robbins, Melissa and Harrison Luke, Danielle Lindsey, Derek Anderson, Julie and Ken Strassburger, Mary Claire Strassburger, Jeremy Weighmann, Holly and Rob Ahrens, Weldene and Graeme Smith, Jennifer Ravey, Caleb Fontenot, Meg and Jarrod Brown, Rose Blount, Chris and Martin Broussard, Becky and Rodney Ames, Gloria Massey, Rosa and Ray Guidry, Marty Craig, Tom Lamb, Julie Amara, Dot Way, Ava Graves, Ken Berryhill, Bryanne Tyler, Les Warren, Melisa Brown and Lee Brown and too many more to mention.

For the children… Last Wednesday evening, Green Dot Public School of Southeast Texas board members Heather Petkovsek and David Willard hosted a fundraising dinner and branding event in the home of Petkovsek. Stephanie Flatten, senior development advisor, introduced the leadership team and shared the exciting progress that has been made by the first year of academic operations at Martin Luther King Jr. Middle School in Beaumont. Enthusiastic guests included BISD board member Tillie Hickman along with Joy and Will Crenshaw, Annette and Kenneth Raffete, Will Jenkins, Gina and Colby Crenshaw, Lynn Castle, Jennifer Gordy, Rachael and Stephen Roane, Libby Stoma, Paige Andrews, Jean Moncla, Regina Rogers, Michele Smith, Stephanie Gertz, Kim Willard, Stephanie Vanskike and Eric flatten, just to name a few. The most uplifting portion of the evening came when four King Middle School students shared their experiences before and after Green Dot’s management of their school. Very exhilarating to hear of all great things happening within our school district!

Happy anniversary… to Yvette and Frank Crorey (17 years), Kathy and Wesley Chessher (27 years) and Cheri and Gerard Parigi (44). Congrats!
