The Symphony of Southeast Texas’ 69th season will welcome the return of Claire Huangci in “Passion: Struggle and Resolution” on Saturday, Feb. 19, at 7:30 p.m. at the Julie Rogers Theatre (765 Pearl St.) in downtown Beaumont.

Maestro Chelsea Tipton III will lead the symphony orchestra in Brahms’ “Symphony No. 3” with Huangci joining in Schumann’s “Piano Concerto.”

Composed by German pianist and conductor Johannes Brahms in 1883 during the Romantic period, Brahms then published the work a year later in four movements – Allegro con brio; Andante; Poco allegretto; and Allegro-Un poco sostenuto.

A fellow German Romantic composer was Robert Schuman, who premiered “Piano Concerto” in 1845. Marked in three movements, Allegro affettuoso, Intermezzo: Andantino grazioso and Allegro vivace, it’s one of the most widely performed and recorded piano concertos from the Romantic period.

Huangci, winner of the first prize and the Mozart prize at the 2018 Geza Anda Competition who also joined the Symphony of Southeast Texas in 2019 for a performance, continuously captivates audiences with her “radiant virtuosity, artistic sensitivity, keen interactive sense and subtle auditory dramaturgy.” With an irrepressible curiosity and penchant for unusual repertoire, she proves her versatility with a wide range in repertoire spanning from Bach and Scarlatti, to Bernstein, Gulda and Corigliano.

Tickets are $32-$55 and can be purchased online at sost.org or by calling (409) 892-2257.
