The 19th annual Harvest of Hope event will honor community members Suzanne and Don Maloney, and is scheduled for Thursday, Nov. 11, beginning at 6 p.m., in the Lamar University Montagne Center parking lot, 4401 South Martin Luther King Jr. Pkwy. in Beaumont.

This year’s event will be one for the history books, Catholic Charities of Southeast Texas Development & Communications Director Derrick Owens expressed in the event’s announcement. According to Owens, participants will enjoy tailgate fare from local restaurants and food trucks, along with music and plenty of fun. Then, from the comfort of their tailgate pod, everyone will be able to watch video messages on the “big screen” on the Montagne Center. Video messages will feature honorees, their family and friends, agency volunteers and clients. Dinner and program commence at 6 p.m., with a live auction to follow.

Attendees are invited to “come as you are” in casual attire, BYOB, and bring coolers and lawn chairs.

Longtime supporters and community members Suzanne and Don Maloney are the honorees for this year’s event. The couple’s involvement in the community includes Catholic Charities, Boy Scouts of America, Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA), the Art Museum of Southeast Texas and others.

Suzanne is known for her grillades that are prepared every year for Catholic Charities’ Breakfast with the Bishop event. She also helped form the Mother’s Club at Msgr. Kelly Catholic High School in Beaumont, and contributes countless hours volunteering in the community and helping those in need.

Don served as the President of Coburn Supply for many years before transitioning to serve as Chairman of the Board in 2021. He served 6 years on the Board of Directors for Catholic Charities and enjoys working at events such as the St. Anne school carnival, Breakfast with the Bishop and ACTS retreats. Don is also known to be one of the first to help after disasters, working on teams after Hurricane Harvey to help gut houses; and after Hurricane Laura, he  helped cook and serve meals in Lake Charles, Louisiana.

Their committee includes Danette Alford, Mellie Bevilacqua, Monica Broussard, Christina Crawford, Ashley Edson, Gerri Giglio, Jo Beth Jenkins, Laure Maida, Charlotte Mains, Amy Maloney, Lisa Mathews, Gigi Mazzola, Mandy Mazzola, Toni Mulvaney, Stacey Olsen, Kim Phelan, Lindsey Ramey, Dottie Schultz, Gay Scott and Gina Winegar.
