A night of premeditated promiscuity went drastically askew for a 17-year-old in Beaumont Friday, Jan. 17, as his plans to meet an escort ended with the teen being tied up and tortured for hours by four suspects in a hotel on Interstate 10.

Tyrrell Historic Library reopened

Beaumont’s century-old Tyrrell Historic Library reopened its doors to the public last week, after Hurricane Harvey and Tropical Storm Imelda damaged the building.
The library sustained water damage in Harvey, leading to an extensive, three-year renovation endeavor that just met its conclusion.

Hardin-Jefferson, Evadale schools closed

Hardin-Jefferson Independent School District and Evadale ISD announced closures of their schools for Monday, Jan. 27.
HJISD said the closure was due to a possible threat made on social media.
"We are working closely with local law enforcement," announced the district.
