Local students earn Lone Star Degrees

A host of area students received Lone Star Degrees at the 94th State FFA Convention held July 11-14 in Fort Worth. The Lone Star Degree is the highest state achievement a student can receive. Fewer than 2% of all FFA members earn the degree.

Beaumont Main Street earns national accreditation

Beaumont Main Street, headquartered in the heart of downtown at 505 Orleans St., Ste. 103, announced July 15 that it has received its 2022 accreditation from Main Street America, “the leading voice for preservation-based economic development and community revitalization across the country.

PA police nab 'known' gang member

Monday, July 11, Port Arthur Police Department officers arrested 23-year-old Frankie Cunningham, “a known gang member,” according to police, in the 3900 block of 26th St.

Councilman catches creeper

Beaumont city councilman Taylor Neild was at home with his family when they were alerted to the sounds of an unknown intruder in the garage. According to Neild’s recounting of the event, as he entered the garage, the councilman saw the intruder crouched with his back turned.

Man injured after van strikes tree

The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) responded to a single-vehicle crash on FM 105 near Keith Road on July 18. DPS reported a van left the roadway and struck a tree and part of the vehicle burst into flames. The incident occurred about 6:30 p.m.

Two injured in multi-vehicle crash

Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) reported a three-vehicle crash on Interstate 10 on July 13, near Mile Marker 857. According to DPS, the preliminary crash investigation indicated at approximately 3 p.m., a 2008 Dodge pickup, driven by Eugene Breaux, 69, of Sour Lake, was in the right lane.
