Staff of the Ben J. Rogers Regional Visitors Center invites veterans, their families and the general public to join them and the Vietnam Veterans Chapter 292 to commemorate Veterans Day and to celebrate the service men and women who keep America safe at their seventh annual Veterans Day Observance scheduled for Nov. 11 at 11 a.m., at 5055 Interstate 10 Access Road in Beaumont. 

Vietnam Veterans Chapter 292 is hosting the event and will hold a raffle, the proceeds of which will benefit the chapter.


To honor local veterans and to commemorate Veterans Day, the Jefferson County Bar Association will host the following free events for Jefferson, Hardin, Orange, Chambers and Liberty County veterans and spouses of deceased veterans:

Beaumont resident Arlie Ray Horn, 90, and 94-year-old Vidor resident Robert L. Jackson both received the Knight medal of the French Legion of Honour on Friday, Nov. 14, from the Consulate General of France Sujiro Seam at Fort Sam Houston, MacArthur Field in San Antonio.

Veterans who need legal advice or legal assistance in the area of family law can visit a FREE legal seminar at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, July 11, at the Beaumont VA Outpatient Clinic located at 3420 Veterans Circle, Beaumont, TX.  The seminar is a public service of the Jefferson County Bar Association’s Veterans Legal Initiative.

The Jefferson County Bar Association (JCBA) will host a free legal advice clinic for area veterans Saturday, Aug. 24, 2013, from 8:30 a.m. – noon at Lumberton Fire & EMS, 228 Country Lane Drive, Lumberton. Appointments are encouraged by calling the bar office at (409) 835-8647, but walk-ins will be welcome.


“Hiring Red, White and You!” (RWY), a job fair for veterans, will be held at the Beaumont Civic Center on Thursday, Nov. 15. The unique job fair seeks to connect veterans with Texas employers who value the experience, discipline and other qualities inherent with a military background.


The nation rejoiced at the end of 2011 when it was announced that an unprecedented number of troops would be returning home from combat after officially declaring an end to the nearly decade-long Iraq War. Over the course of the war, according to White House figures, more than 30,000 Americans were wounded in Iraq, nearly 4,500 Americans killed, and many more of the estimated 150,000 troops that exited Iraq in the last three years suffered illness not reported to the government.


Health care has been in the news and on the minds of Americans lately with the Affordable Care Act, also known as “Obamacare,” taking center stage in the political theater. While civilians wonder how the act will affect them and whether the changes might be positive or negative, veterans already struggle with health care issues of their own.
