Copper thieves struck yet another area school over the weekend, police reported.

According to Chief Fred Hanauer III of the Pinehurst Police Department, a school official reported the crime Monday morning, Sept. 9, after arriving at the West Orange Elementary School at 2605 MLK Jr. Drive in Pinehurst and discovering the air conditioner was not functional.

Police in Orange responded to a call from Little Cypress Jr. High School Monday afternoon, March 4, in reference to a student’s assault of a teacher there.

At approximately 2 p.m., Officer Joshua Dempsey reported he responded to the call and met with the principal of the school, Mitzi Conn. Conn told the officer a student at the campus assaulted another student during a sixth-grade science class. During the altercation, the attacking student reportedly shoved the instructor into her desk.

That was the sentiment shared by Beaumont Independent School District Superintendent Dr. Carrol Thomas on Thursday night, July 26, after the Board of Trustees voted 4-2 to extend the district’s electrical contract with the 51-year-old Walker for another year.
