An auto-pedestrian accident in the 8400 block of U.S. 69 in Port Arthur on Feb. 25 at about 10:25 p.m. resulted in the death of 50-year-old Port Arthur resident Lester "LC" Cowart.

According to a news release from PAPD, officers responded to the accident and determined that a person attempting to cross the freeway on foot was struck by a vehicle in the northbound lanes of traffic.

A car wreck on Feb. 23 in Port Arthur left a Groves woman dead and led to the arrest of a Port Arthur resident, police report.

Two Port Arthur ISD students crossing the road while walking to school were struck by an SUV Thursday morning, Jan. 30.

Around 7:45 a.m. PAPD officers were dispatched to 1300 Freeman Ave. in reference to an auto-pedestrian accident involving two Abraham Middle School students who were struck by an SUV in front of Washington Middle School, at the corner of 12th Street and Freeman Avenue.

Port Arthur Police are investigating two incidents from the evening of Sunday, Jan. 26, that they believe are related. While responding to the first call regarding shots fired in the 300 block of 9th Street at approximately 10:13 p.m., PAPD received a second call about a shooting victim in the 900 block of 10th Street.

A Port Arthur man is dead after a shooting at the Speak Easy Lounge on Procter Street in Port Arthur at approximately 2 a.m. on Jan. 5.

According to a news release from PAPD, 32-year-old Marcus Antonio Elmore was shot killed after witnesses say he pulled a gun on a patron outside the bar. Multiple parties on scene told police the unidentified shooter "lawfully defended himself" after Elmore pointed the handgun at him.

Port Arthur Police report they arrested 52-year-old Gayle Annette Waller on Nov. 3 after discovering the body of her ex-husband, 59-year-old Daniel Lee Dubois, on Nov. 2, nearly a week after the man was stabbed to death.

Deacons unveil the Texas Historical Marker at Central Baptist Church.

Nearly 101 years after the founding of Central Baptist Church, members gathered Sunday morning, Oct. 13, to celebrate the unveiling of a Texas Historical Marker recognizing the church's history and service to the city of Port Arthur.

"For a church to have its doors open for a hundred years requires a lot of faith and a lot of work," said Port Arthur mayor Bobbie Prince. "Evidently the founding fathers of this church and the current members have exhibited both."

An 18-wheeler that overturned around noon Friday caused Port Arthur Police to close the portion of 73 east from State Highway 82 to U.S. Highway 69.  The U.S. 69 South exit to 73 East is also closed, according to a press release by TxDOT.

Both may remain closed past 6 p.m. Friday evening, said TxDOT Public Information Officer Sarah Dupre.

A Port Arthur man was assaulted and robbed early Monday morning, Sept. 16 in the 1000 block of West 14th Street, the Port Arthur Police Department reports in a press release.  The victim, a 30-year-old black man, advised police that around 1 a.m. he was approached by several black males who assaulted him and took his money, according to a PAPD press release.
