Structure fire

Firefighters doused a blaze at a home in Beaumont the morning of March 24 but not before the fire caused extensive damage to the residence.

According to a news release, just after 8:00 a.m., Beaumont Fire-Rescue units responded to a structure fire in the 5300 block of Heatherwood Drive. When firefighters arrived, they found flames licking out through the roof of the home. The lone occupant was able to escape without injury before firefighters arrived, but there was heavy fire damage to the attic and roof of the home.

First responders answering a report of a fence fire on Calder Avenue in Beaumont made a grisly discovery Feb. 24, reports the Beaumont Police Department. Firefighters and officers working to douse the blaze found the burned body of a deceased male, who reportedly lived behind some buildings in the 2300 block of Broadway Street.

Firefighters in Beaumont made short work of dousing a residential fire on the morning of Feb. 4, according to a news release from Beaumont Fire Rescue.

At approximately 8:00 a.m., Beaumont Fire Rescue units responded to a structure fire in the 3800 block of Youngstown Street reported by multiple callers. Upon arrival, firefighters reportedly saw flames coming from one room of the home. They made “a quick attack and were able to confine the fire to one room,” reports the department.

A Friday evening fire caused damage to a storeroom at the Dowlen Road Petco in Beaumont on Jan. 16, but the employees and the pets at the store escaped without injury, reports Beaumont Fire and Rescue.

A local business owner trying to warm up during recent cold weather accidentally ignited a fire at his plant nursery when his heater malfunctioned on Jan. 7, Beaumont Fire/Rescue reports.

According to a news release, just before 7:30 p.m., the owner of Sunshine Plant House in the 3400 block of Concord Road in Beaumont reported a fire at the business. Firefighters responded and found part of a greenhouse in flames. They were quickly able to control and extinguish the blaze, which reportedly caused moderate damage to the structure.

Beaumont firefighters battled a blaze at the former location of Koch's Flower Shop in the 2200 block of Avenue C on Jan. 1, Beaumont Fire and Rescue reports.

At approximately 1:20 a.m., Beaumont Fire Rescue units responded to a structure fire at 2270 Avenue C where they found the vacant building heavily involved by fire. It took approximately an hour to get the fire under control, Fire/Rescue stated. The building was completely destroyed, but there were no injuries.
