In a split vote of the Jefferson County Commissioners, the panel elected 3/2 to approve appointing First Assistant Criminal District Attorney Cory Crenshaw as Judge of County Court at Law #2 during a regular meeting of the elected officials held Monday, June 22.

Beaumont NAACP chapter president Paul Jones said he wanted to see a minority appointed to the seat vacated by Judge Lupe Flores.

The majority of commissioners stated that racial lines were not as important as character and ability.
