Two 19-year-old men have been charged with capital murder in connection with the Nov. 3 shooting of 26-year-old Chad Slaughter of Beaumont, according to a news release from the Beaumont Police Department on Nov. 19.

Beaumont firefighters battled a structure fire in the 1600 block of Ives Street on Nov. 5.

According to a news release from Beaumont Fire Rescue, units were dispatched to the blaze at about 1 a.m. When firefighters arrived at the residence on Ives, they found the dwelling heavily involved with fire. The fire was quickly extinguished but caused major fire damage to the home.

No one was home at the time of the fire and there were no injuries. The occupants returned home while firefighters were on the scene, and Red Cross was called to the assist them.

Detectives are interviewing witnesses and searching for leads in a shooting that resulted in the death of 28-year-old Chad Slaughter of Beaumont, the Beaumont Police Department reports.

According to a news release from BPD, patrol officers responded to a reported shooting inside an apartment in the Timberlake Courts Apartments located at 125 Interstate 10 in Beaumont at about 10:01 p.m. When officers arrived, they found the 26-year-old man dead with a possible gunshot wound to his chest.

A single-car crash Sunday, Nov. 2 claimed the life of a 68-year-old Jefferson County resident.

Detectives are attempting to sort through sketchy details in a shooting that left one man injured Halloween night.

At about 9:47 p.m., officers responded to the Baptist Hospital Emergency Room in reference to a victim of a shooting. Doctors were treating a 17-year-old Beaumont man for a gunshot wound to his upper left arm. Doctors expected to treat and release the man.

A Beaumont man has been found guilty of aggravated assault and manslaughter by a Jefferson County jury.

Criminal District Attorney Cory Crenshaw announced Friday, Oct. 31, that Lance Jacoby Moore, 28, was found guilty for shooting Lorenzo Simon in the foot at a home in Beaumont, and then fatally shooting Simon again later that same evening on February 27, 2013.  The trial was held in the Criminal District Court, Judge John Stevens presiding.

More than 60 officers from the Beaumont Police Department, the Port Arthur Police Department, the Federal Bureau of Investigation and other law enforcement agencies were dispatched Wednesday, Oct. 29, to serve search and arrest warrants at five local gaming rooms and the home of the head of those establishments, who is alleged to have committed felony acts in connection to ongoing criminal enterprises.

Beaumont Police Department reports officers with the Special Services Division along with the Special Assignment Unit conducted a prostitution sting Oct. 24 that resulted in nine arrests. According the news release, officers initiated the operation, conducted in the Interstate 10 and 11th Street area, after numerous calls from citizens. Three females and six males were arrested for soliciting, BPD reports.

Criminal District Attorney Cory Crenshaw announced today that Scott Allen Wills, Jr., 23, of Beaumont, has been sentenced to 70 years in prison following his conviction yesterday by a Jefferson County jury.
