A potential tragedy was averted due to the assistance of Beaumont Police Department patrol officers, dispatchers and a "Good Samaritan" when a blind man became disoriented and lost in the heavy fog, reports BPD.

Early Wednesday morning at about 4:53 a.m., BPD's 911 Dispatch Center received a phone call from a 49-year-old Beaumont man who stated that he was lost somewhere in the city. He told dispatchers that he was blind and somewhat disoriented.

Beaumont Police Department detectives are still working to determine the circumstances and to locate the suspects in the shooting death of a 20-year-old man at a local convenience store on Jan. 19.

Detectives are working to determine the suspicious circumstances surrounding the death of a Beaumont man.

At about 4:42 p.m., Jan. 6, patrol officers responded to a 911 call at a house located in the 1300 block of Central Drive.  The caller told dispatchers he woke up from a nap and found 27-year-old Derek Allen Phillips, his roommate, in the house unresponsive and bleeding profusely.  Officers arrived and found that Phillips was deceased.  Narcotics were also found in the house.

In light of the current climate in America, with tension and violence between law enforcement officers and African-Americans, a community forum at the Antioch Missionary Baptist Church in Beaumont on Monday, Dec. 29, allowed residents to have a candid discussion with law enforcement personnel from the Beaumont Police Department, the Port Arthur Police Department, and the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office.

Detectives are investigating a stabbing, occurring Sunday Nov. 2, that sent a 33-year-old Beaumont man to the hospital.

At about 8:53 p.m., Beaumont Police responded to a family disturbance at a house in the 1300 block of Liveoak.  Upon arrival, officers found the victim suffering from a stab wound to the left side of his upper back.

A 44-year-old Galveston man has been sentenced to federal prison for bank robbery in the Eastern District of Texas, announced U.S. Attorney John M. Bales in a Tuesday, July 29 press release.

Brett Maurice Disiere pleaded guilty on Dec. 11, 2013, to bank robbery and was sentenced to 240 months in federal prison today by U.S. District Judge Thad Heartfield.
