A Port Arthur man has been sentenced to life in prison after he was convicted of robbing multiple Port Arthur residents. 

James Lee Williams was indicted by a Jefferson County grand jury Dec. 15, 2011 for aggravated robbery.

A crew with the Beaumont Fire Department worked to fight a grass fire.

Firefighters fought a grass fire in Beaumont on Oct. 9 near the Interstate 10 and U.S. Highway 69 interchange at a little after noon.

Police say they’re trying to sort out the details behind the death of a man who was apparently struck by a train Tuesday night, Oct. 8.

According to a BPD press release, police responded to the Union Pacific railroad tracks that run parallel to the 3800 block of Hollywood Street.

Two suspects tried to pass forged checks, but were quickly caught by bank employees and police after a short chase. 

According to a BPD press release, officers responded to the Community Bank in the 6300 block of Phelan to find bank clerks who said two men had attempted to cash fraudulent checks.

A man was hospitalized in stable condition after suffering a gunshot wound Sunday night. 

According to a BPD press release, officers responded to 1290 Pipkin Street to find a 28-year-old Hispanic man with a gunshot wound to his abdomen. 

After interviewing witnesses on the scene, officers learned the victim was in an altercation with a friend in which the victim had "struck the man in the mouth with his fist," the press release said.

Vidor police are currently investigating the death of a man discovered dead in a roadway at approximately 11:09 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 3, off South Street, the Interstate 10 service road, between F.M. 1135 and Cow Bayou. Richard Bryan Sanford, 48, of Vidor, was pronounced dead at the scene by Pct. 4 Justice of the Peace Judge Rodney Price. According to police, Sanford was “struck and killed” while walking.

The Little Cypress Mauriceville Honey Bear Drill Team

The Little Cypress Mauriceville Honey Bear Drill Team will hold their eighth annual Bulls and Barrels Rodeo on Saturday, Oct. 26, at 5 p.m. at the Cowboy Church of Orange County Arena, located at 673 FM 1078, Orange.

The show is open to those wishing to participate in bull riding or barrel racing. Other events will include mutton busting (sheep riding) for younger cowboys and cowgirls. Rodeo contestants wishing to enter should call Brittney Wacasey at (817) 253-3042
