The Cobb family stops at Community Christian School on their ‘JuCan’ Walk across

It’s the walk of a lifetime- trekking thousands of miles in memory of a child lost to an illness at just 8 years old. 

The journey began in August, with the remaining family members making several stops along the 14-state route through some 200 cities, including Beaumont and Orange, as part of a campaign to raise awareness for pediatric cancer research.

This past Saturday was the time to be on the water and in the hunt for heavyweight largemouth bass. Not one but three 13-pound-plus bass were caught and entered into the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department’s ShareLunker program. The heaviest of the three weighed just over 15 pounds. 

And the stunner is that Sam Rayburn produced two 13-pound-plus bass in one day.

Everything Grey Greyhound Haven is conducting a shoe collection drive from March 15 – May 15 to raise funds for retired racing greyhounds. The organization will earn funds based on the number of pairs collected as Funds2Orgs will purchase all of the donated goods, according to a press release from Everything Grey. Those dollars will benefit all dogs while in foster care with Everything Grey.

Early Thursday morning, March 12, at around 3:57, BPD officers responded to an apartment in the 6500 block of Phelan in Beaumont in reference to an aggravated robbery that just occurred. Dispatch advised that the suspect held the victims up at gunpoint and entered the residence.

On the morning of March 9, Port Arthur Police responded to the 4300 block of FM 365, in front of the Shire Apartment Complex in reference to an auto/pedestrian traffic accident. According to a press release, officers learned that Port Arthur resident, Linda Faye Middendorf, 54, had attempted to cross the roadway when she was stuck by a 1999 Chevrolet SUV. Middendorf was transported to St. Elizabeth Hospital and later succumbed to her injuries.

A two-vehicle accident in Orange cost one man his life and another his freedom, reports the Orange Police Department.

According to a news release from OPD, on March 8 at 4:41 a.m., City of Orange Police Officers were dispatched to Highway 87 and M. L. King Drive in reference to a traffic crash. Officers arrived at the scene to discover one person deceased. The deceased man was identified as Bret Allen Gentzler, an Orange County resident.

Four men are in custody in connection with the Jan. 19 murder of a 20-year-old Lamar student and a related kidnapping.

Texas Department of Public Safety has released the name of a woman killed in an accident that happened in front of the Pilot gas station on Highway 62 in Orange County.

39-year-old April Ranolls, of Orange, was driving southbound in a Chevrolet pickup truck when a Freighliner truck tractor pulled out from the Pilot gas station attempting to make a left turn and collided with the pickup truck at approximately 6 a.m on March 9.
