Saturday, Aug. 15, from 9 a.m. – noon at Lamar State College – Orange Student Center children who attend will receive free school supplies, books, backpacks, haircuts and immunizations as well as the opportunity to take their picture with Batman, Captain America, Iron Man, Spiderman and other special guest stars.

All parents or legal guardians must have valid ID, be present with children and must bring proof of child’s enrollment in Orange County School. You can bring Student ID, report card or letter from the school.

 West Brook Bruin football players will hold their second annual free car wash in the Alex Durley Stadium parking lot Saturday morning, Aug. 15, from 10:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.

Besides early 6 a.m. practice sessions this week, the Bruins have been out asking friends and family for 10 cent pledges for every car they wash on Saturday.  If the Bruins meet their 100-car goal, that would add up to $10 from each donor.

Charrica Green of Memphis, Tenn., spent the last year serving the region as an AmeriCorps VISTA (Volunteers in Service to America) worker assigned to the food bank through AmeriCorps’ relationship with Feeding Texas, the state body that coordinates the Texas network of food banks.

Hannah Leleux, a Lamar University junior from Bridge City majoring in computer science, has been awarded a scholarship from the Association for Computing Machinery – Women to attend SIGITE 2015, the 16th Annual Conference on Information Technology Education, on Sept. 30 – Oct. 3, at DePaul University in Chicago.
