A multiple vehicle crash on Interstate 10 near Highway 62 in Orange County left an Elmendorf man dead, his passenger severely burned, and sent an elderly couple to the hospital.

At 10:32 p.m., Beaumont Fire Suppression units responded to a report of a house on fire at 11155 Pine Haven, upon arrival units discovered heavy fire in the rear of the single family two story dwelling. According to a Sept. 2 press release, units were unable to make an interior fire attack because of heavy fire conditions. It took over an hour to bring the fire under control. Neighbors report one person was living in the dwelling; however firefighters conducted multiple searches throughout the dwelling and were unable to locate the occupant. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

The Alzheimer’s Association is inviting Southeast Texas residents to unite in a movement to reclaim the future for millions by participating in the Alzheimer’s Association Walk to End Alzheimer’s at West Brook High School on Saturday, Sept. 20.

Registration begins at 7:30 a.m., with a ceremony including special tributes to those who have experienced or are experiencing Alzheimer’s at 8:30 a.m., and the walk begins at 9 a.m.

Not only are football referees in Southeast Texas saddened by Beau Hicks’ death, but football officials from all over the state are mourning the news. H.T. “Beau” Hicks Jr. passed away on Sunday, Aug. 24, at the age of 83.

An initiative sparked by students’ desire to give back to the teachers of the Beaumont Independent School District garnered the support of the community and an outpouring of financial backing for their efforts, raising roughly $25,000 to fund back to school supplies for the educators, according to one of the cause’s organizers, West Brook High School grad Sarah Sanders.

Beaumont City Council authorized city administrators to submit a grant application to the Mamie McFaddin Ward Heritage Foundation for funds in the amount of $7,500. Grant funds, if received, will be used to develop a website to provide easy access to fitness opportunities, nutritional counseling and medical advice.
