St. Mark Episcopal Church will host the Fighting Diabetes with Food Health Fair sponsored by the Southeast Texas Food Bank on Saturday, April 11 from 9 a.m.-12 p.m.

This new Southeast Texas Food Bank initiative will link those affected by diabetes or vulnerable to diabetes with health support services and give them the chance to go home with no cost food boxes consisting of food options that insure a diabetic-friendly diet.

U.S. Attorney John M. Bales announced April 2 the indictment of 24 individuals who operated a major drug distribution ring and were responsible for trafficking methamphetamine to customers across the United States, including in the Eastern District of Texas.

Phone scams have been spreading and infecting areas all over the country, according to reports from the FBI, the BBB and the IRS, and the Southeast Texas community has not escaped the effects. Prior reports from The Examiner have warned of the scams reported in Jefferson and Jasper Counties. Now, Orange County reports they too have numerous reports from victims of phone scams in which the callers represent themselves as a part of the county's law enforcement agency, the Orange County Sheriff's Office.

Investigators with the Orange Police Department are searching for a suspect who reportedly robbed a Dollar General store located in the 3000 block of 16th Street in Orange on April 2.

The Beaumont Police Department reports that detectives are investigating a domestic disturbance that occurred at a house in the 3300 block of Waverly in Beaumont’s south end on April 3.

According to a news release from BPD, at about 9 p.m. that evening, a 37-year-old female was involved in a disturbance with her 37-year-old estranged husband. The argument reportedly escalated, and the man used an unknown type of cutting instrument to slash the female, causing a laceration to her upper body.

Criminal District Attorney Bob Wortham announced April 3 that Trovoy Keith Jones of Beaumont was found guilty of the first-degree felony offense of Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon in Judge John Stevens' Court. A jury took fifty minutes to deliberate before returning a guilty verdict following a four-day trial.
