The Texas Renaissance Festival opens its gates once again this Saturday, Oct. 11, celebrating 40 years of hearty food, first-class entertainment and old-world charm. The festival has evolved over the past half-century, adding new shops, new shows and most recently constructing a Greco-Roman-style temple for King Midas’ Masquerade Ball celebrations featuring Cirque-du-Soleil-style entertainment, dancers, musicians and aerialists.

A Vidor man has been captured after leading Orange County Sheriff's deputies on a chase that ended with the suspect driving into a culvert while attempting to evade law enforcement officers.

John Phillip Fuller Jr.

The Orange County Grand Jury has indicted John Phillip Fuller Jr., 28, on one count of Improper Relationship Between Educator and Student and two counts of Sexual Assault, according to a press release from the District Attorney. 

Fuller was a teacher/coach at St. Mary Catholic School in Orange.  He is charged with having an ongoing sexual relationship with a student who was enrolled at the school.

Port Arthur resident Vincent Lamar Williams, 57, has been found guilty of aggravated sexual assault by a Jefferson County jury and sentenced to 20 years in prison announced Criminal District Attorney Cory Crenshaw in a press release, Oct. 6. Williams was found guilty on Oct. 3, 2014, for sexually assaulting a Port Arthur resident in her home on Jan. 3, 2003.  The trial was held in the Criminal District Court, Judge John Stevens presiding.

Structure fire at 3550 Houston St.

On Oct. 3, at approximately 11 p.m., Beaumont Fire Rescue units responded to a reported structure fire at 3850 Houston Street.  According to a press release, when firefighters arrived they found the home heavily involved with fire. No one was home at the time of the fire and there were no injuries. The home was heavily damaged by the fire and a house next door also suffered some damage. Evidence at the scene indicates the fire was deliberately set, and an investigation is ongoing.

Melissa Ringhardt, the babysitter on duty at the time of 5-year-old Vidor resident John “Johnny” Read’s accidental shooting death in October 2013, has been located and arrested by deputies of the Pope County Sheriff’s Department in Russellville, Arkansas, according to a news release from the Orange County Sheriff’s Office.
