A U.S. federal court has rejected a motion from Beaumont Independent School District (BISD) attorney Melody Chappell seeking recovery of attorney fees, along with other fees, that the district incurred when asked to provide testimony and documentation in the case of the United States v. Calvin Walker of Walker’s Electric Company, the district’s electrical contractor of record.

Since I was old enough to hold a book, I have been an avid reader. Our living room and all of the bedrooms in my house have at least one wall covered by a filled bookshelf. All of my children were brought up with a love of books and reading, a love that has been passed on to their children. On a regular basis, I purchase books for myself and my family from the local bookstores, as well as online sources such as Amazon and Better World Books (my personal favorite).

The W.H. Stark House will partner with the Orange Peel Out Car Club to host the fourth annual Open Car Show on Saturday, Oct. 27, from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. at the Lutcher Theater parking lot, 707 W. Main Ave. in Orange. The car show, which is free and open to the public, will include cars ranging from antiques to vintage to street rods. Music will be provided by Jon Nimitz, and there will also be food and drinks for sale. All proceeds will go to benefit a local charity.

The 14th annual Clays For Kids Sporting Clay Classic took place Saturday, Oct. 12. The shooting event hosted 58 teams over three flights throughout the day. Shooters from all across the area came together to participate in a day of sporting clays.

West Orange Police are still searching for the man who robbed the Firestone Community Federal Credit Union at 2101 Macarthur Drive in West Orange on Sept. 6. Witnesses describe the gunman as about 6 feet tall and 200 pounds. During the robbery, the suspect wore dark coveralls, a maroon ski mask covering his face and head, sunglasses and gloves on his hands. Tellers gave the thief an undisclosed amount of money and the suspect fled the scene.
