Orange County Justice of the Peace Derry Dunn is back at home after a trip to Crystal Beach resulted in two surgeries and a nearly two-week stay in the hospital.

According to Brooke Hatton, Judge Dunn’s court clerk, the frightening ordeal began with a family vacation on July 25 to Crystal Beach, a trip Dunn has taken since he was a young boy. Although Hatton was unclear on what day Judge Dunn was exposed to the water, she said he went into the ocean to help his grandson.

A 34-year-old Houston man parked in a vacant lot in Orange was arrested after police discovered methamphetamine and synthetic marijuana in the man's possession, Orange police report.

Aug. 12, Beaumont Police officers were dispatched to the 3700 block of Magnolia Street in reference to a stabbing at 1:15 a.m. According to a press release, upon arrival, officers found that two women had been involved in a physical altercation in which one of the women produced a knife and stabbed the other several times. The victim had already gotten to St. Elizabeth hospital by the time officers arrived. She was reported to be in stable condition and being treated for several stab wounds to the left side of her body and arm.

From Beaumont Independent School District spokesperson Nakisha Myles: The Beaumont Independent School District Board of Managers and Superintendent Vernon Butler are seeking staff and community input on ways to trim the budget for the upcoming 2014-15 school year. The recommendations submitted will be reviewed and considered by both the Board of Managers as well as the Superintendent.
