UPDATE: The 18-month-old victim of this terrible accident lost her life. Police and first responders worked aggressively on the injuries she suffered, but as she was being prepped for life-flight, she died.

A Beaumont child has been flown to the Texas Memorial Hospital in Houston for treatment in the wake an auto-pedestrian accident that occurred at about 11:30 a.m. this morning.

First day of school at Jones–Clark Elementary

A letter sent home this week to parents of students attending dozens of campuses across Southeast Texas informed them that not only was their child’s school not up to par, but Texas law allows for a transfer to a campus or district that hasn’t exhibited such educational inadequacies. Big Thicket National Preserve and the Big Thicket Association have announced a 2016 hiking series. Starting Sunday, Feb. 7, and continuing the first Sunday of each month through the end of 2016, staff from both organizations will guide explorers along a different portion of the over 40 miles of improved trails within the preserve.

The City of Beaumont announced Feb. 4 that effective immediately Sweetgum Street from North 10th Street to North 11th Street will be closed to through traffic until further notice.

Motorists are asked to be aware of all detour signs, advance warnings including other signage, and to travel with caution.

Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) Trooper Stephanie Davis reports one man was injured in a rollover accident this afternoon, Feb. 4.

According to a news release, DPS received a report of a one-vehicle rollover on Highway 73 just west of Taylor’s Bayou at about 12:30 p.m. The initial report stated that the vehicle was on fire.

Police in Orange have arrested a suspect in the Feb. 3 aggravated robbery of The Country Store at 7411 Interstate 10.

Leblanc

Former city of Port Arthur Water Meter Services Department Supervisor, 57-year-old Robert Leblanc, 57, was indicted in Jefferson County Feb. 3 on five counts of theft by a public servant.

Leblanc was arrested Jan. 5 amid accusations of metal theft from the city he once served. At the time of his arrest, Leblanc worked as a football referee for the Houston Chapter of the Texas Association of Sports Officials.
