Lamar University is proudly announcing a special guest appearance from Gateway Brass, the brass ensemble of the United States Air Force’s Band of the West, which will present a free public concert at 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 22, in the Music Building on the campus of Lamar University. The ensemble plays a wide variety of brass music, from blues and jazz, to pop tunes and military music.

The concert is being organized by Brian Shook, assistant professor of music and trumpet/brass specialist at Lamar.

The science, technology, engineering and mathematics based program engages students in activities meant to be both fun and educational to cultivate their interest in the science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) fields.

The Orange Police Department (OPD) received a report of a purse theft Jan. 11 at Kroger on 16th Street in Orange. According to the incident report, a woman was loading groceries into her vehicle with her purse sitting in the shopping basket. When she looked for her purse after loading her vehicle, she noticed it had been stolen. The woman did not see who took the purse, and police have no suspects at this time.
