Monday, Jan. 21 – Be prepared for some delays if you are traveling westbound to Beaumont on Interstate 10 today. According to TxDOT spokesperson Marc Shepherd, the westbound left lane between Rose City and Beaumont will be closed for road work being done on the Neches River Bridge, also known as the Purple Heart Memorial Bridge, today and possibly Tuesday, Jan. 22.

Beaumont police are still searching for a man who robbed the Compass bank Friday morning, Jan. 18. 

Officer Carol Riley said the man approached the teller at the bank located at 2635 I-10 E. and demanded money at approximately 11:08 a.m.

According to a news release from the Orange Police Department (OPD), a man and a woman were arrested as the result of a search warrant executed at approximately 7:30 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 18. Police report officers with the OPD Narcotic Division along with members of the Orange County Area Law Enforcement SWAT Team found 22 individual bags of marijuana, packaged for sale, and assorted paraphernalia when they searched the residence at 111 Pine Ave. Apt. 555 in Orange.

Four Beaumont police officers and another man were hospitalized Thursday, Jan. 17, after a routine traffic stop turned ugly at the intersection of College Street and Martin Luther King Parkway in Beaumont.

Lamar University is proudly announcing a special guest appearance from Gateway Brass, the brass ensemble of the United States Air Force’s Band of the West, which will present a free public concert at 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 22, in the Music Building on the campus of Lamar University. The ensemble plays a wide variety of brass music, from blues and jazz, to pop tunes and military music.

The concert is being organized by Brian Shook, assistant professor of music and trumpet/brass specialist at Lamar.
