Two men are in the Jefferson County jail after a pair of robberies in Beaumont’s Oaks Historic District and the North End.

On April 15, police say Raphiel D. Boyd, 19, of Beaumont, robbed a 43-year-old man about 7:30 p.m. in the 2200 block of Angelina in the Oaks Historic District. Brandishing a handgun, BPD Detective Jesus Tamayo said Boyd was after electronics.

A Bridge City man has died some two weeks after he was shot in the head in a drug deal in north Beaumont.

In a press release, police identified Nicholas Rosen, 22, as the deceased, saying he died April 18 as a result of a gunshot wound to the back of the head suffered on April 4.

Police said Rosen was a passenger in a Nissan sedan buying drugs in the 10000 block of Gage Street when, shortly after completion of the drug deal, an unknown suspect opened fire into the back of the vehicle, striking Rosen.

The Orange County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the deaths of 15 cattle found shot on a private-property area of Mansfield Ferry Road in Vidor. Sheriff Keith Merritt said his office was alerted to the incident Monday, April 15, at approximately 8:50 a.m. by a concerned citizen traveling by the scene of the crime. According to a press release from Sgt. Chad Hogan, the cattle were all female and included several calves.

After 15 years, the Golden Triangle Fair Housing Conference is gearing up for another year of helping the citizens of Southeast Texas educate themselves about local jobs and home ownership.

The 16th annual Fair Housing Conference will be held in the Beaumont Civic Center on April 24 from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

The event is free and open to the public. A free box lunch will be served with lots of door prizes waiting for those who attend, said Londie Jones, who is spearheading this year’s event.
