Saturday, Dec. 8, brought back memories of yesteryear as the Vidor Chamber of Commerce presented its Vidor Classic Christmas Cruise. The event took place from 2 to 8 p.m. in the parking lot of Capital One Bank in Vidor and featured classic automobiles, music from the ’50s oldies cover band Na Na Sha, Christmas carols from the Vidor Elementary Choir, a street dance, numerous vendors and even an appearance by Santa himself.

“I think (this event) is very important because it brings people from all over to come and ride in it,” said Johnnie Andrus, president of the Vidor Chamber of Commerce and organizer of the event. “We had probably 130 cars — mostly classics and street rods.”

Andrus said she was happy with the turnout and that the entry fees collected will go to the Christian Care Center or the Vidor Police Department’s Blue Santa program.

“The entry fee was either can goods for the Christian Care Center, toys for Blue Santa or cash,” she said. “The cash went to the police department to buy toys for Blue Santa.”

This is the eighth year the event has been held, and it was created by the Vidor Merchants Association.

Andrus said that the Vidor Chamber of Commerce plans to hold the event next year as well.
