UPDATE: Police find missing Port Arthur woman naked, howling at moon
The Port Arthur Police's search for missing Port Arthur woman Anna Sanchez, 25, concluded Wednesday, Jan. 15, when officers found her in the front yard of a Port Arthur residence.
In a Jan. 15 press release, Port Arthur Police announced Sanchez as missing and possibly suicidal based on a past attempt to take her own life, as reported by her sister, who said Sanchez suffered from mental illness and reported her missing to police in fear for her safety. Sanchez was last seen Monday walking out the back door of the Allstate Insurance office, 4700 FM 365 in Port Arthur, and then again around 5 p.m. that evening at St. Mary Hospital, according to a PAPD press release.
Wednesday morning around 8:30 a.m., officers arrived at 3300 block of 19th Street in Port Arthur where they found Sanchez naked in the the front yard of a residence howling at the moon, said Port Arthur Police Detective Mickey Sterling.
Port Arthur Police Department Sgt. Scott Gaspard said Sanchez had cuts on her wrists which he described as "hesitation wounds," which are cuts or wounds that are self-inflicted after a decision is made not to commit suicide. Sanchez's injuries were not serious, Gaspard said, but she was distraught. Officers attempted to interview her, but were unsuccessful.
Police wrapped Sanchez in a blanket and she was transported to Baptist Hospital in Beaumont, where she will undergo medical and psychiatric evaluation, Gaspard said.
