Trespasser attempts escape from police

Officer with the Orange Police Department arrested a man after receiving a call of a suspicious person who possibly brandished a firearm at the Oaks Apartments at 111 Pine Ave. in Orange.

According to a police report from OPD, Officer Byrun Perry responded to a call regarding a man who witnesses said pulled a gun on a neighborhood resident. Upon arrival at the scene, Perry reportedly observed a suspect matching the description given by the caller of the man with the weapon. When Perry told the subject to stop, Perry reported that the man fled on foot. The suspect ran through the parking lot with Perry close behind and entered an apartment at the complex. Other officers arrived to assist and after making contact with the apartment’s resident, they entered and searched for the weapon reportedly observed by witnesses earlier. Officers did not find a firearm at the residence but did find the fleeing suspect. Police arrested the man identified as 24-year-old Matthew Daniel Dewayne Henry of Orange, who had an active trespass warning for the Oaks Apartments, for evading detention and trespassing.
