Sherriff's deputies shoot Beaumont man
At approximately 9:23 p.m. Thursday, May 22, 2014, deputies from the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office Detective Division were conducting a follow-up investigation at the Stone Hurst Apartments at 1650 E. Lucas in Beaumont. The deputies were investigating a recent home invasion robbery that took place in Nome, Texas. During their investigation, deputies encountered an individual who was armed with a pistol. A short foot pursuit occurred, at which time the suspect turned and fired several rounds at the pursuing deputies, according to a JCSO press release. Deputies returned fire, striking the individual twice.
The wounded man was transported to Christus St. Elizabeth Hospital by Beaumont EMS, where he underwent surgery for his injuries. The suspect was listed in stable condition at St. Elizabeth as of Friday evening, May 23, and was being treated for his injuries.
The investigation is ongoing. The suspect is identified only as a 34-year-old male from Beaumont. Charges are pending, awaiting the completion of the investigation, the JCSO said in a press release. The suspect will not be identified until after he has been charged and arraigned. The deputies involved in the shooting were placed on administrative leave, standard operating procedure following an officer-involved shooting, the press release said.
