Semi wreck shuts down morning traffic
At least one man was hospitalized Monday, March 19, after two 18-wheelers collided in the eastbound lanes of I-10 near Louisiana Street in Beaumont.
At about 9:20 a.m., fire and smoke could be seen pouring from the 18-wheeler before the Beaumont Fire Department (BFD) and EMS arrived. By 9:30, BFD had extinguished the blaze and had blocked off all eastbound lanes of I-10. Police on the scene said a TxDOT road crew cleaning the right-hand shoulder might have led to the accident. According to a BPD press release, an environmental team has been called to clean the oil and fuel that was still leaking from the wrecked big-rigs and will reopen the roadway when the crew is finished. No other injuries were reported.
