One killed in auto-pedestrian crash

An auto-pedestrian accident on Interstate 10 near Rose City on Feb. 17 claimed the life of one person, the Department of Public Safety (DPS) reports.

According to a news release from DPS Trooper Stephanie Davis, a pedestrian attempting to cross the westbound lanes of Interstate 10 from south to north when he was struck by a van 1987 Chevrolet van. DPS responded at approximately 8:27 p.m., Judge David Peck pronounced the pedestrian, 49-year-old Scott Keisel of Orange, dead at the scene. The driver of the van, identified as 55 year old Gary Oliveira of Beaumont, was reportedly uninjured. Trooper Davis said the pedestrian failed to yield right of way to the van, and no charges would be filed against Oliveira. The investigation is ongoing, according to DPS.
