New child porn charge for Groves man

A Groves man charged with fondling two underage children was re- arrested last week and will likely face a new charge of possession of child pornography.

David Lawrence Guest, 51, was indicted by a Jefferson County grand jury Sept. 26, 2013 for indecency with a child and improper photography/visual recording, a second-degree felony and state jail felony, respectively.

According to a probable cause affidavit obtained by The Examiner, Guest’s trouble with the law began March 2013 when the daughter of a family friend made an outcry of sexual abuse to police.

When police interviewed Guest about the molestation, the affidavit said he readily admitted to having sexual contact with girls, telling police, “It definitely arouses me when I tickle girls.”

The affidavit said Guest also admitted to taking inappropriate photos of the victim without her consent, including “close-up pictures of the victim’s (clothed) genital areas, buttocks and breasts.”

Guest appeared Monday, March 17, in Judge Lindsey Scott’s 252nd Criminal District Court and a hearing was conducted on whether or not his bond should be raised after his second arrest in less than six months.

In the hearing, the mother of Guest’s victim told the court Guest has been video chatting and texting her daughter, whose best friend is Guest’s daughter, numerous times since he posted at least $110,000 bond out of the Jefferson County Jail on Sept. 6, 2013.

“I had already changed her phone number,” the victim’s mother said.

The mother said she found Guest’s recent chat in her daughter’s video app on her smartphone and said Guest was “video chatting while (the girls were) in the pool two weeks ago at Hampton Inn in Houston for a volleyball tournament.”

Detective Steven Hinton of Groves Police Department also testified at the short hearing, saying they’ve been watching Guest since he bonded out and stopped him for a routine traffic stop where they found child pornography on his cell phone. Hinton said Groves police are in the process of charging Guest with possession of child pornography as a result.

Guest was re-arrested March 13 and is set to appear for trial April 28 in Judge Scott’s court.

Judge Scott raised Guest’s bond at the hearing Monday for the two indicted offenses to $250,000 in each case for a total of $500,000 worth of bonds. Guest is currently housed in the Jefferson County Jail.
