Man guilty of impregnating 12-year-old
A Port Arthur man has pleaded guilty to sexually molesting and impregnating a young girl.
Francisco Antonio Pacheco-Ortiz, 26, was indicted by a Jefferson County grand jury Feb. 28 for aggravated sexual assault of a child, a first-degree felony.
According to a probable cause affidavit obtained by The Examiner, Ortiz’s trouble began when he met the young girl through the child’s mother some two years ago.
Within a few months of meeting the child, the affidavit said Ortiz and the then 12-year-old child began dating, eventually leading to the accused having sexual intercourse with the 12-year-old at her residence in Port Arthur.
The youngster became pregnant and had the child in November 2012.
While she was at the hospital giving birth to the baby, the now 13-year-old victim told a staff member at the hospital that Ortiz was the father, according to the affidavit.
When Ortiz arrived at the hospital, police immediately mirandized Ortiz, after which he admitted to having consensual sex with the child but denied knowing the child’s age despite admitting he knew the child’s mother for the past two years, according to the affidavit.
Ortiz pleaded guilty to molesting the young girl on Monday, Nov. 4, and is set to appear for his formal sentencing in Judge John Stevens’ Criminal District Court on Dec. 9.
