Knights on Bikes Plan Special Good Friday Event

Catholic Charities

In what has become an annual tradition since its inception in 2010, some local members of the Catholic fraternal and service group the Knights of Columbus plan a special Good Friday Stations of the Cross on March 29, rolling from church-to-church in Southeast Texas on motorcycles to complete their religious pilgrimage.

Their special Stations of the Cross will culminate with a Knights of Columbus donated lunch to the low-income guests served at Catholic Charities of Southeast Texas’ Hospitality Center located at 3959 Gulfway Drive in Port Arthur.

Knights on Bikes is a sub-group of Knights of Columbus members who have a strong affinity for motorcycle riding. The Knights on Bikes will ride their motorcycles to a series of 13 different churches in the area on Good Friday morning in a variance on the meditative prayer the Stations of the Cross, which reflect on 13 scenes from the day of Jesus Christ’s death.

A brief prayer service will be conducted at each of the churches, culminating with a final reflection at the Hospitality Center, where the Knights on Bikes will enjoy a meal made possible for Hospitality Center guests by a donation from the Knights of Columbus.

The Center serves a midday meal every day of the year for the benefit of the homeless and other low-income members of the community for whom the Center’s daily meal is an important food supplement.

The meal at the Hospitality Center is served from 10:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.  The Knights on Bikes are expected to arrive at the Center between 11:30 and 11:45 a.m.
