Hampshire-Fannett high school student compiles ‘hit list’
A Hampshire-Fannett high school student was arrested and charged with issuing a terrorist threat for writing what police believe to have been a “hit list” containing the names of fellow students.
Around 7:45 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 11 the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office was contacted by the Hamshire Fannett ISD in reference to a suspicious list that was located in the student’s locker, a Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office press release states.
According to the press release, the list contained the names of 12 students that were threatened with harm.
The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office initiated an investigation and began interviewing students from the list. During the interviews, police gathered information that one of the students on the list had written the “hit list.”
That 15-year-old female student was transported to the Minnie Rogers Juvenile Detention Center and is being charged with terroristic threat, which is a 3rd degree felony.
Police said they will not release the name of the offender due to her age.
Hampshire-Fannett ISD issued the following letter to parents regarding the incident:
"Dear HFISD Parents,
Hamshire-Fannett ISD takes great pride in consistently providing safe, secure, and positive learning environments for our students. The safety of our students and staff is always a top priority for our district and community. In what appears to be a "copy cat" incident of a recent similar situation with another Southeast Texas area school, there was an incident in Hamshire-Fannett ISD at the high school involving a 15 year old female student who allegedly created what appears to be a ‘hit list' with the names of other Hamshire-Fannett High School students on the list and also placed their own name on the list in order to create drama and gain attention. The district was forced to take disciplinary action against the student who created the list of names including their own name. Hamshire-Fannett ISD takes any kind of threat towards students and staff very seriously and will be administering the appropriate disciplinary consequences in dealing with the student. As an added precaution, extra security will also be present on the high school campus and available throughout the district today. The local authorities have been involved in the investigation and will assist the district in making the determination about the appropriate charges to be filed against the student. During the investigation, the 15 year old female student admitted to creating the list. The parents of the high school students whose names were on the list are being notified as well as the parents of the high school student who made the list. Additionally, district staff and parents of all students throughout the district were notified of the incident as well."
